When Alamosa Centennial organizers sought to involve local children in the County’s 100 year celebration, organizers wanted to capture the spirit of our children’s imaginations. Commissioner Dunne and other organizers created a weaving contest. According to Commissioner Dunne, “art is one of the best ways to engage children” and “weaving is a good expression of the heritage tradition here in Alamosa County and the San Luis Valley.
Children, grades 3 -5, participated in contest. One winner from each grade will be selected and will receive four train tickets (Generously donated by the Rio Grande Scenic RailRoad). Winners will be announced at the Celebration’s Opening Ceremony (beginning at 12:00 pm).
If you think you know the Alamosa and its rich history, stop by the Welcome Center or the Information Booth in Cole Park tomorrow to pick up an entry form. You’ll be entered in a prize drawing.
